Production is highly concentrated, with large-scale businesses accounting for 78 percent of the total food fish volume. The Unterallgäu district was identified as the state’s most productive region.

As the carp harvesting season begins, agricultural officials anticipate a harvest of between 4,000 and 4,500 tons. Although production conditions are favorable, officials noted that volumes remain relatively low due to losses caused by predators such as otters. The industry involves approximately 8,000 family businesses managing around 40,000 ponds, primarily in Middle Franconia and the Upper Palatinate.
