In July 2026, BC Hockey announced a partnership between the newly formed British Columbia Hockey Conference (BCHC) and the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL). The agreement creates a clear development pathway for players moving from U20 competition to Junior A, with the aim of improving exposure to higher levels such as the WHL, NCAA and college programs. The BCHC, now holding Junior A status, incorporates former KIJHL teams and will work with eight PJHL clubs that will operate as a provincial U20 development league under the Canadian Junior Hockey League umbrella.

By August 2026, the BCHC began implementing its structure as the sole BC Hockey-sanctioned Junior A league. The league features 22 clubs across four geographic divisions, including a six-team Kootenay Division. The regular season consists of 50 games, and a Top Prospects Game is scheduled for November 24 at Delta’s Sungod Arena.

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks, a former KIJHL club, are transitioning to this new 50-game schedule. Head coach and GM Terry Jones noted that the roster includes returning players such as Ryan Neufeld, Vance Amyotte, Nathan Planger, Brock Robertson, and Ayden Probe, alongside new additions from the Castlegar Rebels. Main camp was scheduled to begin on September 4, with recruitment focusing on players from British Columbia and Alberta. The Nitehawks' inaugural BCHC season is set to open on September 19 against the Fernie Ghostriders, following exhibition games in mid-September.
