Reports from Russia have detailed separate instances of violent encounters between humans and bears in remote regions.

In the Russian taiga, Viktor Seligejev survived an attack by a 200-kilogram female bear while gathering pine cones. The attack caused catastrophic injuries, including facial trauma, broken ribs, and more than ten fractures in his arm. Seligejev was able to walk 1.5 kilometers to find assistance.

In Altai Krai, a 15-year-old boy survived a bear attack near the village of Solton while tending beehives. During the struggle, a bear bit through the battery of a smartphone in the boy’s pocket, causing it to explode. The resulting flames startled the animal, allowing the boy to escape. He sustained critical injuries to his head, face, and neck and was transferred to a Moscow clinic for surgery. Local officials suggested that increased forest fires in the region may be driving wildlife closer to human settlements.
