In mid-October 2026, authorities in Sandanski, Bulgaria, launched search operations after a bear was spotted near the local zoo. Despite patrols near urbanized areas, no new tracks were found, leading the Sandanski Municipality to advise residents to avoid the affected region and follow specific safety guidelines.

By late October, new bear sightings were reported in the Robidnica area of Slovenia. Residents in the Novaki community observed a female bear and a cub crossing a road. This followed earlier reports in early October regarding three cubs in the region. Local authorities have warned that the presence of a mother bear increases potential risks to the public.
