Discussions regarding Sam Mendes’ upcoming four-part cinematic event, ‘The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event’, have drawn reactions from those connected to the band’s history. Jane Asher, the former fiancée of Paul McCartney, stated she does not intend to watch the series to avoid public questioning regarding her past relationship with McCartney. Asher, who will be portrayed by Lucy Boynton, noted that while filmmakers approached her, she maintains a policy of not discussing her past relationship publicly. Paul McCartney has expressed concerns regarding the physical accuracy of the portrayals. Speaking on the ‘Good Hang’ podcast with Amy Poehler, McCartney noted that historical depictions often incorrectly portray him as shorter than John Lennon. He indicated he has reached out to Mendes to ensure the new production, scheduled for release in April 2028, does not repeat errors seen in previous films like ‘Nowhere Boy’. The upcoming series will feature Paul Mescal as McCartney, Harris Dickinson as Lennon, Joseph Quinn as Harrison, and Barry Keogan as Starr. McCartney specifically addressed a discrepancy in the casting, noting that Mescal is shorter than Dickinson. He revealed he contacted Mendes after seeing a production still of the ‘Abbey Road’ crossing recreation that emphasized this height difference. Mendes has reportedly reassured McCartney that these height differences can be managed through visual adjustments, suggesting the perceived discrepancy in images may be due to the actors' strides. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-13: Paul McCartney disputes height accuracy in upcoming Beatles films Paul McCartney has raised concerns with director Sam Mendes over height inaccuracies in the upcoming Beatles biopic series, noting that the actors' statures do not match the band's real-life proportions. 18 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/paul-mccartney-critiques-height-inaccuracies-in-upcoming-beatles-biopics ### 2026-09-27: Jane Asher declines to watch upcoming Beatles biopics Jane Asher has announced she will not watch Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles biopics, citing her long-standing decision to avoid public discussion regarding her past relationship with Paul McCartney. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jane-asher-declines-to-watch-upcoming-beatles-biopics --- Cite as: Beatles biographical film series production.
