The Belgrade metro project has entered a significant construction phase with the deployment of specialized machinery. Two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) manufactured by CRCHI departed China to facilitate the excavation of approximately 11 kilometers of underground tunnels for the first line of the system.

To support the project, the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure issued a construction permit for Phase I works valued at 3.82 billion dinars, excluding VAT. These works are essential for preparing the site for the TBMs, which are being transported via sea and river routes. The excavation strategy involves a dual-sided approach, with one machine operating from the Bele Vode station toward Sajam and a second starting at Karaburma near the Pančevo Bridge to increase efficiency.

In addition to the metro development, Belgrade is pursuing broader public transport upgrades, including a tender for 85 new 30-meter trams. However, union leader Ivan Banković has raised concerns regarding the City Public Transport Company’s ability to fund such procurements due to existing debts and financial constraints.
