The city of Belo Horizonte is implementing infrastructure improvements to support its tourism sector. A R$ 2.5 million modernization project has been announced for the Mercado Central de Belo Horizonte, funded by a credit line from the Banco de Desenvolvimento de Minas Gerais (BDMG). 

The project focuses on upgrading the market’s electrical network, including the replacement of transformers and electrical panels, to support its 400 shops and approximately 15 million annual visitors. These works, scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027, are part of a broader initiative leading toward the market’s centenary in 2029. 

Additionally, the city has begun preparations for the 2027 Carnival season, including the installation of a promotional countdown totem in Praça Rui Barbosa.
