A biographical film titled ‘Sul cammino di Francesco – La vita di Biagio Conte’, directed by Costanza Quatriglio, is scheduled to broadcast on the Italian television channel Rai 1 on October 11. The film chronicles the life of Biagio Conte, a man from a wealthy Palermo family who abandoned his privileged background to serve the city’s homeless and marginalized populations. Following his spiritual crisis and a pilgrimage to Assisi, Conte founded the Missione di Speranza e Carità in 1991 to provide aid to the poor, migrants, and the elderly. A national premiere was held at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, attended by Italian President Sergio Mattarella. Although the gala event was interrupted by technical malfunctions that prevented a full screening, the President expressed appreciation for the film’s accuracy. The production aims to present Conte, who passed away in 2023, as a modern figure of the Franciscan spirit. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Biagio Conte: Rai1 to broadcast film on Palermo's humanitarian figure Rai1 is set to air a biographical film about Biagio Conte, the man known as the ‘Saint Francis of Palermo’ who founded the Missione di Speranza e Carità to serve the city's most vulnerable. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/biagio-conte-rai1-to-broadcast-film-on-palermos-humanitarian-figure ### 2026-10-04: Biagio Conte biopic to air on Rai 1 following Palermo premiere The film ‘Sul cammino di Francesco’ tells the life story of Biagio Conte, a Palermo man who abandoned wealth to serve the marginalized.
