In one instance, she detailed a life-threatening battle with end-stage pulmonary tuberculosis during her youth. Pesch described the hospital environment as traumatic and restrictive, noting that her mother had to intervene to secure her release. Following a nine-month recovery, she decided to pursue music to ‘make people happy,’ forming her first band shortly after discharge. Additionally, Pesch recounted the difficult conditions she faced in New York during the 1980s while her band, Warlock, was finding international success. She described the period as ‘hell’ due to intense control from her record label, which imposed strict dietary restrictions, exercise routines, and a ban on smoking. To escape the psychological pressure of these demands, Pesch occasionally spent nights in the New York subway system among the homeless community. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-06: Doro Pesch recounts traumatic childhood battle with tuberculosis Heavy metal singer Doro Pesch revealed in an interview that a traumatic battle with tuberculosis as a teenager inspired her musical career and her decision to pursue a life of making people happy. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/doro-pesch-recounts-traumatic-childhood-battle-with-tuberculosis ### 2026-10-02: Doro Pesch recounts difficult experiences in 1980s New York German metal singer Doro Pesch describes the intense pressure and strict control she faced from her record label in 1980s New York, which led her to seek refuge with homeless people in the subway. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/doro-pesch-recounts-difficult-experiences-in-1980s-new-york --- Cite as: Biographical accounts of Doro Pesch.
