On October 31, 2026, a mass shooting occurred near Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, following the 85th Magic City Classic football game between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University. The violence took place near vendor locations on the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West and involved two separate shooting episodes occurring minutes apart.

The incident resulted in one death and eight injuries. Victims are reported to be between the ages of 19 and 30, with one individual in critical condition and seven others in stable condition.

Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett and Mayor Randall Woodfin confirmed that a 17-year-old suspect was detained. The individual was reportedly found with a firearm equipped with a Glock conversion device and reportedly has no ties to the participating universities. Investigators recovered multiple weapons at the scene, though the motive remains unknown.

Following the violence, authorities suspended all tailgating activities and ordered attendees to leave the stadium property. Mayor Woodfin stated that the incident should not overshadow the 85-year legacy of the event. Investigators continue to seek video evidence from witnesses via an established online portal.
