Sources: 3. Developments: 2. Bishop Joseph Strickland has initiated a series of religious teachings and critiques regarding the direction of the Catholic Church. He launched a weekly scripture study program titled ‘The Bishop Teaches’ to address what he describes as an ongoing liturgical crisis. Strickland argued that the Church must return to sacred traditions, such as Gregorian chant, and asserted that questioning recent liturgical changes is an act of guardianship. Expanding his critique to Vatican policy, Strickland challenged a new document marking the 60th anniversary of the Nostra Aetate declaration. He argued that the document’s approach to interreligious dialogue uses ambiguous language that could undermine the Church’s mandate for evangelization. He specifically stated that the text must be ‘rejected and repudiated’ by those who maintain the Church is the sole vehicle for salvation, expressing concern that the document suggests non-Christian religions may serve as authentic paths to God. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-17: Bishop Joseph Strickland criticizes Vatican interreligious dialogue document Former Bishop Joseph Strickland has criticized a new Vatican document on interreligious dialogue, warning that it prioritizes dialogue over the Catholic Church’s mandate for evangelization. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bishop-joseph-strickland-criticizes-vatican-interreligious-dialogue-document ### 2026-09-10: Bishop Joseph Strickland launches scripture study and addresses liturgical crisis Bishop Joseph Strickland is launching a weekly Sacred Scripture study series and calling for a return to traditional Catholic liturgical practices to address the current liturgical crisis. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bishop-joseph-strickland-launches-scripture-study-and-addresses-liturgical-crisis --- Cite as: Bishop Joseph Strickland religious critiques.
