Tarun Chugh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in-charge for Gujarat, has engaged in a series of political criticisms against opposition leaders and former administrations.

In early September, during a workshop in Gandhinagar, Chugh criticized the Congress-led UPA government for corruption and misgovernance between 2004 and 2014. He contrasted this period with the leadership of Narendra Modi, citing India’s economic growth and transition to the world’s 4th largest economy.

By late September, Chugh’s criticisms expanded to include regional leaders. He dismissed remarks by Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who labeled the BJP and RSS as threats to the country, as reflecting ‘mental bankruptcy’. Chugh also accused the Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab of misappropriating welfare funds intended for construction workers.
