Utah wildlife officials euthanized a bear in Ogden after it was spotted in a Newgate Mall parking lot. The animal had been captured and relocated from the Kamas area only five days prior to the incident.

State officials determined that euthanasia was necessary because the bear repeatedly entered populated areas. Officials noted that bear-related incidents in the state have more than doubled compared to the previous year. This increase is attributed to unusual weather patterns, such as extreme heat and drought, which have depleted natural food sources like acorns and berries.
