Efforts are underway to combat long-standing superstitions that associate black cats with bad luck or witchcraft, which often leads to neglect or mistreatment. Cultural and animal welfare organizations are working to shift these negative perceptions by promoting education and appreciation for the animals.

In Mexico City, the Museo de Historia Natural y Cultura Ambiental scheduled a workshop titled ‘Miaullidos panterosos’ to educate the public on the curiosities of black cats. Similarly, the observance of National Black Cat Day on 27 October highlights the ongoing challenge of adoption bias, as data shows black cats frequently wait longer in shelters for permanent homes than cats of other colors.
