In late August 2026, Greek authorities and municipal leaders initiated efforts to address seasonal blood shortages caused by summer demand and decreased donor availability.

The Municipality of Neapoli-Sykies organized an emergency two-day donation drive at the Neapoli-Sykies Town Hall and municipal premises in collaboration with major Thessaloniki public hospitals. Mayor Simos Daniilidis highlighted that these supplies are critical for kidney and cancer patients, as well as emergency response.

Following this, the National Blood Transfusion Center (EKEA) partnered with STASY S.A. to host a voluntary donation event at the Syntagma Metro Multi-use Hall in early September. This initiative aims to replenish reserves and ensure adequate supplies heading into the autumn season.
