BNB Chain has successfully activated the Pasteur hardfork on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) mainnet as of August 25, 2026. Coordinated under BEP-673, the upgrade integrates three specific proposals—BEP-682, BEP-695, and BEP-675—to improve security, governance, and throughput.

Security enhancements focus on cross-chain bridge verification by rejecting duplicate validator signatures to prevent voting power inflation (BEP-682). Governance and staking are also being strengthened through BEP-695, which ensures retired consensus keys lose administrative authority and blacklisted addresses are barred from signature-based governance votes.

To increase transaction capacity, BEP-675 modifies the block production process by allowing builders to submit fully executed blocks for validator review. While the 450-millisecond block interval remains unchanged, testnet benchmarks indicated that validator processing time could drop from 125 milliseconds to 15 milliseconds. This optimization aims to increase transaction throughput from approximately 1,237 transactions per second (TPS) to 2,324 TPS. Node operators were required to upgrade to version 1.7.7 prior to activation.
