Bodhana Sivanandan, an 11-year-old chess player from England, has become the youngest Woman Grandmaster (WGM) in history. The International Chess Federation (FIDE) confirmed the milestone following her performance at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Representing England on the top board, Sivanandan competed in all 11 rounds and earned eight points. This performance secured her third and final WGM norm and a second International Master (IM) norm. Her achievement breaks the previous record held by Kateryna Lagno and Hou Yifan, who both attained the title at age 12.

Sivanandan, who began playing during the COVID-19 pandemic, previously held the distinction of being Britain’s youngest female chess champion and the youngest person to represent England in any international sport at age nine.
