The BookCity literary festival is undergoing organizational and geographic changes for its 2026 edition, scheduled for November 23 to 29.

In Milan, writer and teacher Marco Balzano has been appointed to curate the event, succeeding Oliviero Ponte di Pino and Elena Puccinelli. Under the leadership of the BookCity Foundation, Balzano aims to implement a polycentric program that extends the festival’s reach beyond the city center to more distant districts, connecting authors, publishers, and the public.

The festival is expanding its provincial reach, with Varese and Como joining the circuit. In Varese, the debut will feature 21 free events hosted at venues such as the Civic Library, Riccardo Malipiero Musical Lyceum, and Villa Panza. The Varese program is designed to explore finding reason through literature amidst modern complexities by integrating history, music, and art.

In Como, the third edition of BookCity Como will run from November 22 to 29 under the theme ‘Il senno sulla Luna. Sette giorni di libri, ragioni e follie’. Organized by Parolario ETS, Teatro Sociale di Como AsLiCo, and Fondazione Alessandro Volta, the Como program will utilize local libraries, bookstores, and villas to promote reading and dialogue.
