Gearbox Software and publisher 2K first announced the Prime Pack 4 "Murders and Acquisitions" for Borderlands 4 on 23 July, describing it as a two‑part premium DLC that would launch on 30 July alongside the game’s Version 1.9 update. The announcement also teased the next story pack, "FL4K and the Last Resort," scheduled for 10 September and a forthcoming Version 1.10.

A week later, on 31 July, Version 1.9 went live, delivering Pack 4 as promised. The release added a repeatable mission in Toxic Scowl canyon, new boss and mini‑boss encounters, a Perlescent weapon, six legendary gear pieces, and Cryptex Card 4 with 24 cosmetics and four rewindable equipment items. The update confirmed the upcoming Version 1.10 will bring Story Pack 2 focused on FL4K and a new playable hunter, as well as the next Pack 5.
