Sources: 4. Developments: 2. Bornholm is experiencing significant logistical and transport challenges. Initially, the island faced an acute freight crisis with a cargo capacity shortage of up to 30 percent. Local businesses reported risks to retail supplies and trailers being left on docks due to insufficient services and regulatory issues regarding refrigerated trailers. Officials have met to discuss these delays, noting that the upcoming Energy Island Bornholm project may further strain infrastructure. As the situation evolved, focus shifted toward public transport integration. While the island is set to implement the Rejsekort electronic ticketing system to assist commuters and tourists, connectivity issues persist. Specifically, combined ferry-train tickets frequently sell out despite available capacity on both modes of transport. This is attributed to current ferry contracts that lack requirements for formal ticketing cooperation between operators. Local advocates are now pushing for future ferry tenders to mandate better integration between ferry services and other collective transport providers. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Bornholm to implement Rejsekort as transport integration issues persist Bornholm will finally implement the Rejsekort ticketing system, though officials highlight ongoing issues with integrated ferry and train ticket availability for travelers. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bornholm-to-implement-rejsekort-as-transport-integration-issues-persist ### 2026-09-30: Bornholm faces acute freight crisis and ferry capacity concerns Bornholm faces a critical freight crisis with a 30 percent capacity shortage, prompting urgent discussions between the Transport Minister and local leadership regarding ferry services and infrastructure. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bornholm-faces-acute-freight-crisis-and-ferry-capacity-concerns --- Cite as: Bornholm transport and logistics challenges.
