Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy was expected to return to the lineup for a game in San Jose following a six-game suspension for a slash during the Stanley Cup playoffs. While the team maintained a winning record during his absence, head coach Marco Sturm noted the team would be improved by his presence.

Following his return, the Bruins secured a 6-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks, with McAvoy scoring a goal. Despite the win and an extending winning streak, the team faced defensive scrutiny after being outshot 38-26 and allowing two power-play goals, requiring 35 saves from goaltender Jeremy Swayman to maintain the lead.
