Sources: 9. Developments: 8. Following an early playoff exit, the Boston Red Sox face significant roster and contract decisions heading into the 2027 season. A primary focus remains catcher Adley Rutschman, whom the team acquired from the Baltimore Orioles. While Rutschman holds the trust of the pitching staff, his recent offensive output has been limited, prompting the front office to consider a long-term extension. The club is also evaluating outfielder Jarren Duran, who has emerged as a trade candidate following a performance regression in 2026. Despite a decline in offensive production, where he recorded a .207 batting average and a .620 OPS, Duran maintained value through his combination of power and speed, hitting 20 home runs and stealing 21 bases. The organization reportedly plans to tender him a one-year contract for 2027, estimated at approximately $11.1 million, rather than non-tendering him. While the team is expected to seek a trade, finding an adequate return has proven difficult; if no deal is reached, Duran will remain under team control to provide depth alongside Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, and Ceddanne Rafaela. To bolster the offense, the team is looking at internal options like first baseman Triston Casas, who missed the entire 2026 season due to injuries. On the free-agent market, the Red Sox have been linked to Randy Arozarena, Seiya Suzuki, and NPB Triple Crown winner Teruaki Sato. Regarding prospect management, the organization decided not to promote Franklin Arias to the Major Leagues due to developmental concerns. In their first free agent move, the Red Sox signed catcher Riley Adams to a minor league contract to provide depth. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Boston Red Sox expected to trade Jarren Duran this offseason The Boston Red Sox are expected to seek a trade for outfielder Jarren Duran this winter but will likely tender him a one-year contract for 2027 to maintain roster depth. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-expected-to-trade-jarren-duran-this-offseason ### 2026-10-22: Boston Red Sox sign catcher Riley Adams to minor league deal The Boston Red Sox have signed catcher Riley Adams to a minor league deal to provide depth behind Adley Rutschman. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-sign-catcher-riley-adams-to-minor-league-deal ### 2026-10-21: Boston Red Sox explore roster moves and potential Japanese slugger acquisition The Boston Red Sox opted to retain prospect Franklin Arias during the trade deadline and are now being linked to Japanese slugger Teruaki Sato to add power to their lineup. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-explore-roster-moves-and-potential-japanese-slugger-acquisition ### 2026-10-19: Boston Red Sox evaluate offensive and roster options for 2027 season The Boston Red Sox are weighing internal talent like Triston Casas against expensive free-agent targets like Randy Arozarena and Seiya Suzuki to improve their offense for the 2027 season. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-evaluate-offensive-and-roster-options-for-2027-season ### 2026-10-19: Boston Red Sox facing offseason trade speculation The Boston Red Sox face offseason trade speculation involving outfielder Jarren Duran and potential moves to bolster lineup power and pitching. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-facing-offseason-trade-speculation ### 2026-10-12: Boston Red Sox face offseason decisions on Rutschman and Duran The Boston Red Sox must navigate offseason decisions regarding catcher Adley Rutschman’s contract extension and potential trade scenarios for outfielder Jarren Duran following a disappointing 2026 season. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-face-offseason-decisions-on-rutschman-and-duran ### 2026-10-10: Boston Red Sox face decision on catcher Adley Rutschman The Boston Red Sox must decide on the long-term future of catcher Adley Rutschman following a major trade deadline acquisition that involved a significant package of prospects. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-face-decision-on-catcher-adley-rutschman ### 2026-10-06: Boston Red Sox consider future of Adley Rutschman The Boston Red Sox are considering a contract extension for catcher Adley Rutschman, despite recent injury struggles and performance concerns following his trade from the Baltimore Orioles. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/boston-red-sox-consider-future-of-adley-rutschman --- Cite as: Red Sox evaluate roster options and potential acquisitions.
