Algerian author Boualem Sansal has released a new book, ‘La Légende’, which recounts his eleven-month imprisonment in Algeria. Detained between November 2024 and November 2025 on charges of threatening state security following comments regarding historical borders, Sansal uses the work to critique the perceived inadequacy of French diplomats and the silence of intellectuals and media outlets during his incarceration.

Following his release, Sansal is scheduled to make his first visit to Morocco in November. The two-week trip, organized in coordination with the publishing house Grasset, includes public lectures in Rabat and Fez, as well as visits to Dakhla and Tangier. This visit follows a period of legal and political controversy in which Sansal was sentenced to five years in prison for suggesting that parts of western Algeria were historically part of Morocco before colonial border redrawing. He was eventually granted amnesty following Moroccan diplomatic efforts.
