Brandon Miller has transitioned into an expanded leadership role for the Charlotte Hornets following the offseason trade of LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves. At 23, Miller is now the longest-tenured player on the roster.

After recovering from a left shoulder dislocation that required surgery in May, Miller returned to contact training, crediting his rehabilitation process to staying close to his teammates. He also noted a personal focus on improving nutrition and dietary habits to support his physical conditioning. During the previous season, Miller averaged 20.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game.

Following discussions regarding his rookie-scale eligibility, Miller and the Hornets agreed to a five-year, $209 million contract extension, the largest deal in franchise history. Hornets President of Basketball Operations Jeff Peterson and head coach Charles Lee cited Miller’s work ethic and competitive mindset as key factors in the agreement.

With the signing, Miller has expressed a primary goal of ending the franchise’s playoff drought, noting the team has not reached the postseason since the 2015-16 season. He indicated that recent roster acquisitions, including Naz Reid, Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neal, and Dennis Schröder, are intended to support this objective.
