The Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) has taken steps to regulate and oversee the energy and fuel sectors.

Initially, the ANP implemented Resolution No. 1.003 to regulate access to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals. This regulation allows third parties to access terminals on a “negotiated and non-discriminatory basis” to increase market liquidity and infrastructure efficiency, though it presents potential challenges for private assets linked to the electricity sector.

Subsequently, the agency expanded its operational oversight through a technical cooperation agreement with the Municipal Procon of Parauapebas. This partnership is designed to intensify inspections of agents involved in the transport, resale, and commercialization of biofuels and petroleum derivatives. The agreement includes joint efforts to repress legal violations, collect fuel price data, and georeference economic agents to improve sector data reliability.
