The 1906 flight in Paris is recognized as the first successful takeoff of a heavier-than-air aircraft using its own power. In the Brazilian Senate, a special session was held to honor these milestones and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). Senator Marcos Pontes highlighted the 14-Bis as a self-propelled aircraft that “changed the world,” while Air Force Commander Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno praised Santos Dumont as a symbol of national creativity. Regional celebrations included ceremonies at the Second Integrated Air Defense and Air Traffic Control Center (Cindacta II) in Curitiba, where Vice-Governor Darci Piana noted the facility’s role in managing up to 40% of Brazilian airspace. Additionally, FUMEC University scheduled a lecture cycle regarding the pilot profession, covering commercial, rotary-wing, and military aviation careers. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-23: Brazil celebrates Aviator Day and 120 years of the 14-Bis flight Brazil celebrates Aviator Day and the 120th anniversary of Alberto Santos Dumont’s 14-Bis flight with ceremonies in Paraná and educational lectures at FUMEC University. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/brazil-celebrates-aviator-day-and-120-years-of-the-14-bis-flight ### 2026-10-21: Brazilian Senate honors 14-Bis flight and Air Force Day The Brazilian Senate held a special session to honor the 120th anniversary of Alberto Santos Dumont's 14-Bis flight, Aviator's Day, and Brazilian Air Force Day. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/brazilian-senate-honors-14-bis-flight-and-air-force-day --- Cite as: Brazil aviation and Air Force commemorations.
