Covering approximately 668,000 to 669,000 hectares, these reserves—named Tupana, Igapó-Açu I, Igapó-Açu II, Canaã, and Mirari—are situated along the BR-319 highway corridor. The initiative aims to protect biodiversity and carbon stocks while allowing local populations, including extractivists and riverine communities, to utilize natural resources through sustainable management.
