Brazil’s National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies in the SUS (Conitec) has issued a preliminary favorable recommendation to include injectable cabotegravir in the Unified Health System (SUS).

This long-acting medication, which is administered every two months following initial doses, is intended to expand HIV prevention options rather than replace existing oral Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). The Ministry of Health intends to prioritize the injectable version for highly vulnerable individuals who encounter social or logistical barriers to the consistent use of oral PrEP. While the recommendation marks a step toward diversifying prevention strategies, specific timelines and definitive priority criteria for its availability within the public health system have not yet been established.
