# Brazil labor courts intensify electoral harassment warnings

In late July 2026 Brazil’s Superior Council of Labor Justice (CSJT) adopted resolution 452/2026, expanding the definition of electoral harassment in the workplace and requiring judges to notify the Ministry of Labor and the Electoral Prosecutor’s Office. The resolution introduced electronic tagging, data transmission and monthly monitoring by regional labor courts.

Within days the courts issued public warnings, citing recent rulings that penalised employers for coercing employees’ votes. A packaging firm in Rio Verde was ordered to pay R$1,000 in moral damages to each employee for offering leave contingent on a favored candidate’s victory, while a coaching firm in Vitória was ordered to compensate a dismissed saleswoman with R$8,000 after she refused to disclose her vote.

On 4 August 2026 the Justice of Labor (Justiça do Trabalho) reiterated the warning, emphasizing that any promise of benefits, threat of dismissal, or coercive meeting used to influence votes constitutes illegal electoral harassment. The notice added that violations may trigger labor, electoral and criminal sanctions, including fines, compensation, indirect termination and possible imprisonment. Workers were again urged to collect messages, recordings or witness statements and to report incidents to the Ministry of Public Labor, the Superior Labor Court or the Council of the Superior Labor Justice.
