The Brazilian Association of Fish Industries (Abipesca) has proposed a strategic plan to increase annual seafood exports to R$ 15.6 billion within four years. This target would represent approximately five times the current export levels.

To reach this goal, the proposal suggests implementing a Fisheries and Aquaculture Acceleration Program and providing specific financing lines for exporters. These measures include up to R$ 104 million in working capital per company and up to R$ 260 million for industrial modernization or expansion.

While the sector currently grows at an average of 5.5% annually, Abipesca indicates that improvements in credit access, sanitary standards, and international promotion could raise that rate to 10%. However, achieving the R$ 15.6 billion target would require an average annual growth rate of nearly 50%, necessitating fleet renewal, new processing plants, and the resolution of regulatory, logistical, and environmental hurdles.
