On August 5, 2026, two Brazilian inmates, Alex Heleno da Silva and Fernando Junior da Silva, escaped from the Palmasola prison in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, during a power outage. The fugitives reportedly used bedsheets to scale the perimeter wall.

Alex Heleno da Silva, suspected of being a member of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC), was awaiting extradition to Brazil. Fernando Junior da Silva was serving a sentence for arms trafficking.

Interpol issued an orange notice to assist in their identification and recapture. Meanwhile, Bolivian authorities launched an internal investigation that resulted in the imprisonment of three police officers to determine if negligence or complicity played a role in the escape.
