In September 2026, multiple Brazilian scientific organizations announced initiatives to recognize and support female researchers.

The Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science (SBPC) opened applications for the 8th Carolina Bori Science & Women Prize. This edition focuses on the ‘Girls in Science’ category, targeting high school and undergraduate students across the humanities, biological and health sciences, and engineering, exact sciences, and earth sciences. Winners are scheduled to be announced by January 15, 2027.

Concurrently, the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) launched the 3rd Women and Science Award. This collaborative effort between several ministries and international organizations, including the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the Ministry of Women, the British Council in Brazil, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), seeks to promote diversity within science, technology, and innovation careers.

The CNPq award features four categories: Incentive (for women aged 15 to 29 in the Ministry of Women’s Asas para o Futuro Program), Stimulus (for researchers with doctorates obtained from 2011 onwards), Trajectory (for scientists who completed their doctorate by 2010), and Institutional Merit (for organizations with strategic gender equality policies). Individual prizes range from R$ 5,000 to R$ 40,000, while institutional winners may receive R$ 60,000. Applications for this award closed on September 10, 2026, with results expected in November and a ceremony planned for March 2027 in Brasília.
