The four year old colt Sovereignty, trained by Bill Mott and ridden by jockey Junior Alvarado, won the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. Sovereignty, a previous winner of the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, moved from fifth place to victory, overtaking stablemate Knightsbridge in the final stretch to win by 1 3/4 lengths with a time of 2:00.36.

The race resulted in a Venezuelan exacta, as jockey Javier Castellano finished second riding The Puma. Knightsbridge took third place, followed by T O Password in fourth and the betting favorite Forever Young in fifth. Trainer Bill Mott described Sovereignty as “a real classic, a runner,” noting the horse's resilience after recovering from a physical ailment that had previously kept it off the tracks.

Following this victory, Sovereignty has retired from racing. The 2025 Horse of the Year concludes his career with eight wins from 13 starts and total earnings exceeding $10.5 million. Owner and breeder Godolphin announced that the stallion will stand at Darley America with an advertised stud fee of $150,000.

Other notable results from the championships included trainer Aidan O’Brien setting a record for the most wins at the event, securing three victories, including the Breeders' Cup Turf with Benvenuto Cellini. Additionally, the stallion Into Mischief saw significant success, as his offspring won both the Classic and the Juvenile races.
