As part of the ‘Brindisi Puglia Capital of Culture 2026’ initiative, the Municipality of Brindisi has implemented several programs focused on urban mobility, cultural heritage, and economic development.

In mid-October, the city launched ‘Brindisi CambiaPasso’, an urban initiative designed to reduce vehicular traffic in the city center on specific Sundays. The program aims to promote the use of public spaces through music, shows, and free access to municipal monuments, supported by enhanced public transport and shared mobility options.

On October 28, the city will host a conference at the Nuovo Teatro Verdi titled ‘Brindisi: from the Roman Appian Way to the Mediterranean’. Organized by the Municipality and the Fondazione Nuovo Teatro Verdi, the event will bring together historians and experts to discuss how the city’s historical role as a link between Rome and the Eastern Mediterranean can be leveraged for territorial valorization. Discussions will address the city’s position in a contested Mediterranean landscape and the potential of Mediterranean agriculture as cultural heritage. This includes integrating local wine and agricultural sectors, such as DOC Brindisi production, into economic strategies to drive tourism as the city transitions away from its traditional petrochemical and energy industries.

Additionally, the Confesercenti Provinciale Brindisi Technical Assistance Center (CAT) will hold a conference on October 28 at Palazzo Nervegna titled ‘Le Attività Storiche come Patrimonio Vivo del Territorio’. This event, part of a regional promotional project in Puglia, aims to frame traditional shops, artisan workshops, and restaurants as essential cultural and tourist attractions. The conference will feature the presentation of a brochure documenting historical shops and workshops that serve as pillars of local identity and community.
