Lithuanian point guard Arnas Velicka joined the Brisbane Bullets to introduce a European style of play to the NBL. After preseason performances, Velicka indicated he had adjusted to the league’s fast pace.

However, Velicka was subsequently expected to be sidelined for approximately eight weeks due to a leg injury. To address this, the Bullets signed former NBA player and Brazilian Olympian Raul Neto as an injury replacement.
