A pre-inquest review was opened in Bristol concerning the deaths of three British citizens—James ‘Jim’ Henderson, James Kirby, and John Chapman—who were killed in Israeli drone strikes on 1 April 2024 while working as security consultants. The inquest may expand to include the Israel Defence Forces and the officer who ordered the strikes as “interested persons,” while families seek to investigate the role of the British Ministry of Defence and the origin of the munitions used. Separately, investigative reports have linked Manchester-based British national Jonathan Burman to Israeli military service in Gaza. Evidence, including social media imagery, suggests involvement in the destruction of residential buildings and an incident at Al-Farabi Primary School. Members of the UN Commission of Inquiry have called for the Metropolitan Police’s war crimes unit to examine the case to determine if the destruction of property violated the Fourth Geneva Convention. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-13: British man linked to Israeli military service in Gaza faces war crimes inquiry calls A Declassified UK investigation has linked a British man to the Israeli military in Gaza, prompting UN investigators to call for a Metropolitan Police war crimes inquiry regarding a burning school. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/british-man-linked-to-israeli-military-service-in-gaza-faces-war-crimes-inquiry-calls ### 2026-09-21: Inquest into British citizens killed in Gaza airstrikes An inquest into the deaths of three British security consultants killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza may include the IDF and Colonel Nochi Mendel as interested parties. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/inquest-into-british-citizens-killed-in-gaza-airstrikes --- Cite as: British nationals in Gaza conflict legal scrutiny.
