Through the first two games, Purdy recorded 492 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception with an 80.4 percent completion rate. Teammates and coaching staff have highlighted his development and decision-making. Running back Christian McCaffrey described Purdy as ‘special,’ noting his ability to balance complex schemes with instinctive playmaking. Head coach Kyle Shanahan characterized Purdy’s recent training camp as his best yet, citing increased aggression. Analysts have also noted his improved ability to anticipate coverage. ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky stated, ‘There’s no quarterback in the NFL playing football the way that Brock Purdy is right now.’ In the Week 3 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, the 49ers secured a 36-30 victory at Levi’s Stadium, improving their record to 3-0. Purdy led the offense with 297 passing yards and four touchdowns. The game featured a notable hook-and-lateral play on the opening drive: Purdy completed a short pass to Mike Evans, who lateraled to Deebo Samuel for an 82-yard touchdown. This play resulted in Samuel recording 80 receiving yards without a formal reception. However, the victory came amid significant injury concerns. Wide receiver Mike Evans was carted off the field with a potential rib injury, and left tackle Trent Williams was sidelined with a neck injury. The team has also been playing without defensive star Nick Bosa, who was sidelined with a calf injury. The Cardinals remained competitive behind quarterback Jacoby Brissett and rookie running back Jeremiyah Love, who recorded 109 total yards and his first career receiving touchdown. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: San Francisco 49ers defeat Arizona Cardinals 36-30 to remain undefeated The San Francisco 49ers moved to 3-0 with a 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals, highlighted by a 82-yard trick play touchdown and four passing touchdowns from Brock Purdy. 18 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/brock-purdy-leads-49ers-with-strong-early-season-performance ### 2026-09-23: Brock Purdy earns praise for elite play and development San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is earning praise for his elite decision-making and improved playmaking as he starts the 2026 NFL season with high completion rates. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/brock-purdy-earns-praise-for-elite-play-and-development --- Cite as: Brock Purdy early 2026 season performance.
