The LIFE DinPin Bear project has initiated efforts to monitor and protect brown bear populations in Montenegro and Serbia using non-invasive genetic sampling. In Serbia, the University of Belgrade and the Institute for Nature Conservation are conducting large-scale monitoring across mountain massifs such as Tara and Zlatibor to collect hundreds of samples and establish standardized population estimates.

In Montenegro, the project has focused on training local stakeholders. More than 150 hunters and members of hunting societies have completed workshops in various regions, including Cetinje and Nikšić. These sessions, organized by the Center for Protection and Study of Birds and the Agency for Environmental Protection, teach the methodology for collecting hair or scat to identify individual bears and assess population health without disturbing the animals.
