Thieves burglarized the Florence apartment of 97-year-old Cardinal Ernest Simoni, an Albanian national and prominent Catholic figure, while he was traveling in London. The intruders reportedly used chisels to break through a wall or force open a reinforced entrance door to access the residence near Piazza del Duomo.

Stolen items are estimated to be worth approximately 30,000 euros and include cash, gold, medals, and jewelry. The Cardinal’s family discovered the ransacked home, noting that while valuables were taken, a collection of saint figurines remained untouched. Local Carabinieri and scientific investigation units have launched an inquiry and are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects.
