Initially, the municipality launched a ‘Water Savings Awareness and Culture Education’ program in collaboration with local education directorates and the BUSKI General Directorate. This program uses audiovisual materials to teach students about water conservation, with plans to expand its reach to approximately 50,000 students across 17 districts. Following these environmental education efforts, the municipality has moved toward broader urban safety measures by developing the ‘Bursa Disaster and Urban Resilience Declaration’. Conducted in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this initiative seeks to increase the city’s resistance to earthquakes, floods, landslides, fires, and storms. The project aims to translate scientific vulnerability analyses into concrete administrative and financial commitments to minimize loss of life and property. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-02: Bursa develops urban resilience declaration to mitigate disaster risks Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is developing a Disaster and Urban Resilience Declaration with JICA to strengthen the city against earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters through scientific planning. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bursa-develops-urban-resilience-declaration-to-mitigate-disaster-risks ### 2026-09-22: Bursa expands water conservation education for students Bursa Metropolitan Municipality is expanding its water conservation education program, aiming to reach 50,000 students across 17 districts to promote sustainable water usage habits. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bursa-expands-water-conservation-education-for-students --- Cite as: Bursa municipal sustainability and resilience initiatives.
