Through partnerships with providers like Baidu Maps and various transportation managers, the assistant enabled users to book flights, train tickets, and ride-hailing services using natural language commands. However, the assistant’s ability to perform automated tasks faced a major setback when 155 major Chinese applications, including WeChat, Alipay, and Taobao, declined to participate in its Screen Automation Execution Protocol (SAEP). This refusal prevents the AI from performing automated operations such as clicking buttons or completing transactions on behalf of users. Industry analysts indicate that the mass rejection is driven by concerns regarding data privacy, security, and traffic sovereignty. Major platforms expressed fears that an AI intermediary could strip original apps of user engagement, advertising revenue, and data control. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-15: Doubao AI assistant faces rejection from 155 major Chinese apps ByteDance’s Doubao assistant faces a major hurdle as 155 top Chinese apps, including WeChat and Alipay, refuse to allow AI-driven automated operations via its new SAEP protocol. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/doubao-ai-assistant-faces-rejection-from-155-major-chinese-apps ### 2026-09-30: Doubao AI expands services to include flight, train, and ride-hailing bookings ByteDance's Doubao AI has expanded its capabilities to include flight and train bookings, ride-hailing, and navigation through partnerships with providers like Baidu Maps and Cao Cao Mobility. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/doubao-ai-expands-services-to-include-flight-train-and-ride-hailing-bookings --- Cite as: ByteDance Doubao AI service expansion and integration issues.
