The Cadillac F1 Team has faced significant challenges during its debut season, primarily characterized by reliability issues and performance struggles. During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, driver Valtteri Bottas experienced a last-lap crash which he attributed to a technical malfunction where the car’s systems appeared to become “confused,” resulting in a failure of the rear braking system.

Technical setbacks continued at the United States Grand Prix, where Bottas was forced to retire on lap 48 due to a suspected power unit failure. He reported that the engine made a “bad noise” and lost power during acceleration. While Perez finished the race in 19th place, Bottas noted that the team’s race pace was occasionally better than expected.

Pressure on the driver lineup remains high. Analyst Ralf Schumacher has criticized Bottas’s performance gap relative to Perez, suggesting the team consider replacing him with Esteban Ocon for the 2027 season. While Bottas remains under contract, Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss indicated that internal discussions regarding driver performance are ongoing. The team continues to monitor American talent, with Towriss acknowledging the possibility of Colton Herta joining the squad as early as 2027.
