The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a back-to-school resource guide for K-12 students that drew criticism for its educational content. The guide included a link to a ‘Muslim Studies Curriculum’ which attributed the motivations for the September 11 terrorist attacks to the United States’ ‘support of Israel,’ as well as American involvement in the Persian Gulf War and the presence of U.S. military forces in the Middle East.

Reports indicated that the New Jersey chapter of CAIR produced the guide, which also suggested that ‘terrorism is defined differently by different groups of people.’ Critics raised concerns regarding the content and linked the organization to Hamas, arguing that the material shifted blame for the actions of jihadist hijackers toward political and religious entities.

Following the initial publication, the controversial linked content was removed from the document within a day.
