The Cameroon government has implemented new regulatory measures across different levels of the education sector to improve standards and oversight.

In the basic education sector, the Ministry of Basic Education suspended the processing of applications for new private primary schools for an initial three-month renewable period. Minister Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa cited concerns regarding precarious infrastructure, failure to meet pedagogical standards, and the use of fraudulent authorization documents. During the suspension, authorities will work to sanitize the sector by collecting information on authorized schools.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Higher Education has tightened rules for private higher education institutions regarding professional licenses. Minister Jacques Fame Ndongo issued a directive clarifying that under the LMD system, access to a professional license is strictly reserved for students holding a Bac+2 level qualification, such as a DEUG, BTS, HND, or DUT. This measure is intended to prevent institutions from granting professional licenses to students who have only completed one year of study following their Baccalauréat.
