The probe centered on footage showing Oliveira meeting with executives from Smile Transportes, a company involved in a public transport contract, during the bidding phase. While Oliveira maintained he was performing legal oversight duties, the council ultimately found that he had “exceeded the limits of parliamentary oversight” during these meetings.

Following a judgment session, the Campinas City Council voted 23 to 5 to revoke Oliveira’s mandate. This decision marks the first time in the city’s history that a councilor has had their mandate revoked through such a commission.

To fill the resulting vacancy, the council has summoned Tak Chung Wu, the first substitute for the Cidadania party, to assume the seat. Wu, a naturalized Brazilian and social and environmental activist, has ten days to be sworn into office.
