The Canadian men’s national soccer team has entered a new World Cup cycle with the objective of winning a trophy and ending a 26-year championship drought. Following recent competitive successes, including a Round of 16 appearance and a semi-final run in the 2024 Copa América, head coach Jesse Marsch indicated the squad believes they can compete for titles.

The team began this cycle with a friendly match against Chile in Toronto. Due to injuries to several players, including Derek Cornelius, Alfie Jones, and Moïse Bombito, the squad utilized a modified lineup. The match also served as a farewell for Junior Hoilett, who played his final international match for the national team.
