The Canadian federal government has announced several regional development and infrastructure investments across various provinces.

In Northern Canada, $20.53 million has been allocated to 22 projects in Northern Ontario via FedNor to expand business advisory services and community economic development. This includes support through the Community Futures Program and the Northern Ontario Development Program. Additionally, nearly $5 million through FedNor’s Community Investment Initiative will support 17 initiatives, allowing municipalities and First Nation communities to hire or retain Economic Development Officers for three years to focus on sectors like mining, forestry, and tourism.

A $77 million commitment involving the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association will fund the construction of a small-craft harbour in Arctic Bay. Part of the Sinaa Agreement, this project—contracted to Pilitak Enterprises Ltd.—is expected to be completed by 2030 and includes a breakwater, wharves, and dredging to support marine transportation, tourism, and food security.

In the Atlantic region, the government is investing $100 million into offshore wind energy development in Nova Scotia to attract private investment for projects like the Wind West plan. This includes $5 million for wind and ocean condition buoys and $3 million for transmission modelling to support potential cable routes to Quebec and Ontario, ahead of a winter 2027 licensing bid call. Furthermore, a $300 million renewal of the Atlantic Fisheries Fund, a joint initiative with the four Atlantic provinces, aims to support seafood sector research and market diversification into the EU and Asia.
