The caucus specifically highlighted an organization reportedly selling merchandise, such as children’s clothing, that supports the denial of children’s graves at an Indian Residential School near Kamloops, British Columbia. Members of the caucus stated, “We will not be erased. We will not be silenced.” By the end of the month, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Chiefs of Ontario called for government and institutional action to address this issue. Advocates urged for the criminalization of denialism, arguing that efforts to distort the truths of the residential school system undermine survivors. In response to denialism manifesting through racist graffiti and controversial classroom materials, researchers have proposed a five-part framework for educators—detect, debunk, disregard, debate, and deconstruct—to help students distinguish historical debate from claims that disregard evidence. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-30: Chiefs of Ontario call for action against residential school denialism Chiefs of Ontario and educators are calling for action to combat the rise of Indian Residential School denialism, urging for the criminalization of false narratives and providing strategies for classrooms. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/chiefs-of-ontario-call-for-action-against-residential-school-denialism ### 2026-09-08: Indigenous Liberal Caucus condemns residential school denialism The Indigenous Liberal Caucus has issued a statement condemning the rise of residential school denialism in Canada, specifically targeting merchandise that denies the existence of graves near Kamloops. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/indigenous-liberal-caucus-condemns-residential-school-denialism --- Cite as: Canadian residential school denialism controversy.
