If validated, the coffee would become the only variety in Spain to hold such a community seal. Subsequently, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food expanded these efforts by submitting applications for both ‘Café de Agaete’ and ‘Tomate Canario’ (Canary Tomato) to the European Commission. While both products currently hold transitional protection at the national level in Spain, the European Commission has a six-month window to evaluate the proposals.
