In the Czech Republic, the Czech General Health Insurance Company (VZP) has expanded its free lung-cancer screening programme for heavy smokers aged 55–74. Since its 2022 launch, 43,735 people have been invited and 29,278 have enrolled. Using low-dose CT scans, the programme has identified 631 high-risk findings, including 66 in the first quarter of 2024. While common issues like nosebleeds are often benign, doctors warn that recurrent bleeding lasting over 20 minutes may be linked to nasopharyngeal cancer. Additionally, reports from the 108 Military Central Hospital highlight that symptoms of acute leukemia, including dizziness, pale skin, and fever, are frequently mistaken for general exhaustion, potentially causing dangerous delays in treatment.
